Trump is sacrificing the public health of America to anti-science zealots. Wackadoodle RFK Jr. is sending medical research and treatment back to medieval times. Welcome back preventable diseases.

One of the most critical responsibilities of our federal government is to protect the public health of America. And yet, revenge-minded President Trump has ceded the health of our country to an anti-science, self-centered zealot – Loony RFK Jr.

Our new Health Czar has a long history of science denial, opposing milk pasteurization, water fluoridation and vaccinations - after lying to Congress about his beliefs to get appointed, so he could dismantle a century of progress in medical research, prevention and treatment.

Kennedy recently fired everyone on America’s Advisory Committee on Immunization, and replaced them with his fellow anti-science clowns. Their first action was to ban a long-proven-safe preservative in vaccines based on the testimony of one long-disproven-antivax-fanatic.

Now that Trump and Republican Senators have put our lives in his hands, Kennedy is promoting the use of vitamins rather than vaccines, despite their 97% proven efficacy in preventing deadly diseases. When measles swept through the Southwest, RFK Jr. claimed that the common MMR vaccine contained “aborted fetus debris.”

His AI-generated report on Making America Healthy Again (MAHA) was found to be based on nonexistent studies. Blaming chronic diseases in children on vaccines, it promoted the alternative of “movement, diet, light exposure, and sleep timing” to prevent deadly diseases.

Yes, this is the man who is now setting health policy for all of America. I keep expecting Kennedy to say, “I’m not a doctor, but I play one on TV.”

One of the selection criteria RFK Jr. uses for his appointees is the magnitude of their criticism of the Biden Administration. His pick for the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) was a vocal critic of everything from Covid “overresponse” to the food pyramid, which is “poisoning America.” The top FDA vaccine official was forced out, after citing Kennedy’s “misinformation and lies” as an irresponsible danger to public health.

The Director for America’s world renown National Institutes of Health (NIH), has vowed to replace hundreds of staffers, and shift research away from infectious diseases and vaccines. Funding will be cut more than 40%, and Trump is threatening to end all biomedical research at universities throughout the country on such challenges as cancer, Alzheimer's, cystic fibrosis and mental health.

After struggling to find the “right” Surgeon General, Junior settled on a wellness “influencer,” who earned a medical degree, but has no active medical license. She’s a fan of the psychedelic drug psilocybin, which is found in magic mushrooms.

The one-and-only Dr. Oz now oversees Medicare and Medicaid, which provide health insurance for more than 150 million Americans. After rising to fame on “Oprah,” his advocacy for alternative weight-loss products has been panned by the legitimate medical community for years.

By empowering Kennedy to gut scientific competence, Trump now has a sycophant who will let him grab the microphone and wax eloquent about his own crackpot theories, like how Covid was no worse than a bad cold and would magically disappear. Someone who will reliably endorse the medical efficacy of bleach injections, internal ultraviolet rays, and ivermectin sheep dip.

Kennedy’s strategy to “make America healthy again,” was to cancel the contract to develop a vaccine to protect humans against the rapidly spreading and mutating bird flu. The antivaxxer also forfeited the right to purchase doses in advance of the next pandemic.

RFK Jr.’s approach to deal with the bird flu is pure loony tunes. Instead of culling birds when the infection is discovered to stop the spread, he wants to let the virus run its course through the flocks, and identify the birds that survive to determine the source of their immunity. To that end, he urged Canada not to kill 400 exposed ostriches. The ever helpful Dr. Oz offered to relocate the birds to his Florida ranch.

I’m probably being overly sensitive to the moronic cruelty of antivaxxers, for having a childhood friend who contracted polio before Salk. With his leg braces and being confined to bed through multiple painful surgeries, my friend and I plotted imaginary sailing adventures around the world with National Geographic maps.

As soon as it was available, we all got that jab, because no one in my small farm town believed any child should suffer from such a terrible, and now preventative disease. NO ONE was an antivaxxer in those days.
